The doctors
Dr. James Penfield - Cosmetic and Implant General Dentist
Dr. Penfield received his dental degree at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and his Bachelor's at Brigham Young University, majoring in Spanish and Zoology. He has since received continued training on implants, cosmetics, lasers, three-dimensional radiology, sedation, invisible braces, as well as other aspects of dentistry. James has flown around the world to train with some of the best dental professionals. He is a member of the ADA, AGD, Sustaining member of the AACD, he also studies at the prestigious KOIS center and Masterships at the ICOI. A member of Crown Council and Richardson Group Coaching. Dr Penfield and his team keep their knowledge up to date in the most advanced procedures and technologies and most important, they LOVE taking care of you and your family!
Dr. Penfield is an easy going and fun loving guy who grew up working in his father’s lumber business and also worked as a scuba instructor while in dental school. Overcoming cancer at a young age developed him into a caring and understanding Individual with a high respect for quality of life and how he can improve it for others.
Both loving the outdoors, Dr. Penfield and his wife moved to Alaska in 2004 to seek adventure.
He has since had four wonderful children and enjoys watching his children and his practice grow. So few people can really say they love what they do. For James it is a reality.
Dr. Amanda Kempainen - Cosmetic and General Dentist
Dr. Amanda Kempainen grew up in upstate New York and earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree with high honors from Boston University School of Dental Medicine. Following dental school, she completed a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Hospital in Utah where she focused on advanced procedures and comprehensive patient care.
For several years, Dr. Kempainen worked in private practice in Salt Lake City, providing high-quality dental care to a diverse patient population. Her passion for the mountains, adventure, and the outdoors eventually led her north to Alaska, where she continues to pursue professional excellence. Her approach to dentistry is centered on building strong, trusting relationships and providing a welcoming environment.
Outside the office, you can often find her skiing, playing hockey, mountain biking or hiking usually with her yellow Lab, Ida, by her side. She’s also fluent in Norwegian and enjoys traveling to Norway.
Dr. Paul Cady - Periodontal Specialist
Dr. Cady attended Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, receiving his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry. Following this he completed the 2.5 year program at the University of Missouri in Kansas City for post-doctorate studies / residency with specialization in Periodontics.
He and his wife Angela have 3 wonderful children. Dr. Cady enjoys golfing, fly fishing, snow sports, but mostly his family.
